G'day mate what you should have is a 253. One of the other guys will be able to tell you for sure but I think your engine prefix should be a q?

Hi xbro87.

The HR prefix is for the 253 V8 used in LH/LX Toranas. The number places it around mid '75. It can't be the original motor for an HJ.

Your HJ GTS has a build date of 7/76 ?? Is that the date on the Compliance plate. Does it have ADR27A on
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

Post the VIN number (off the skinny plate) and I'll try to check it out for you. As Terry says it's not the right engine number, but I'll see if I can get the original number for you. Takes a while though, and not always recorded.

Check the block casting date mark just below the head above the oil pump.

The first no is the day. The letter refers to the month ie A = Jan, B = Feb etc. The last character refers to the year.

Should hear within a week. Check the numbers/letters carefully too. You have at least one incorrect - should be 8Q69 not 8069
