Whats the casting number under the intake runner? Should be 3 numbers. Sound like old double hump Fuellies. Usually 1.94 & 1.5"valves, 64cc chamber, pressed in rocker studs. No accessory holes tapped in the front of the heads? Edited by user Thursday, 14 December 2006 11:19:09 PM(UTC)

No. But there is some confusion around HK type 2 heads. The blue parts manual lists part number 3958602 for the type 2 327. It is a 64cc, 1.94/1.5" valve fuel injection head for 1961-70 as fitted to higher performance engines. I think this was also the HT |

Byron, I don't have any info on these 3958602 heads, and they are not listed in Sallee Chevrolet head lists either.
1968-69 (3917291) 350cu" 1.94 inlet 1.5 exhaust
1968-69 (3917290) 307,327cu" 1.72 inlet 1.5 exhaust

I made a mistake above. Part number 3958603 is the 64cc HT head, not 3958602. 3958602 is the GM part number, not casting number. GMH also listed part number 3958603 for the type 1 HK 327 in the revised HK parts manual. Part number 3958602 is simply a sma |

3917291 are Double Hump heads, and no accessory holes are drilled as standard heads. 3927186 is as Byron say's also a Double Hump head, but these were called a Bowtie Head in the U.S

I think that the 3917291 heads may have been the ones Des West got caught with. I remember hearing or reading somewhere that it was the casting marks and not the accessory holes that scutineers spotted. May be wrong though.
