Hey all, My Uncle is a big fan of german engineering and has bet me that a stock 2.0 litre FSI Volkswagen golf would be more powerful than my recently acquired 186 once i've finished modifiying it. I need some quick power ups that are under a strict budget of no more than $200. I was reading an article in street machine (my monthly sanity) about a grunt hunt on a blue 202. They extracted nearly 200 hp out of it. An interesting point was that removing the air filter and fixed blade fan and replacing these parts with aftermarket pieces extracted nearly 24 HP! i already have a 350 holley ready for the job. I'm also cheaply sourcing a blue 202 head (12 port). Any help in this are would be appreciated (i'm looking at you Byron Rich)! I know the Golf puts out about 110kW (about 147HP) Cheers Boys! You're not wrong mate, I think we'll have a series of tests, you know drags, burnouts, sound off, pulling caravans, but you can stick economy up your arse because american machinery is built for power.

I think its a bit of "horses for courses ". Depends on what the 186/202 is in.... 400 m sprint .. In a Kingswood... my money would be on the Golf. Put the same motor in an early LC/LJ Torrie and it woould be bye bye Golf. Doing any work..towing the Car t

Do you want power or reliability? If you want power only, forget the blue 202 head and get a modified 149 or 161 or 173 red head. This will bump your compression up to about 10:1, stick a Holley with 4 barrel manifold or triple SU's and a 30/70 cam (in o Edited by user Friday, 26 January 2007 2:05:25 AM(UTC)

Mate I think i'll stick with the red head from a smaller motor. Holley 350's add more power on the reds (as apposed to nothing on the 202). Is a 208 just a 186 with a 202 crank? Thanx Alex

Yes, but like a 192 there is no real such tangible thing as a 208. It's a 202 that has been rebuilt with +0.060" pistons. A 202 is a 186 with a 202 crank, simple as that. Same parts, same strength, same hotting up tips. 350 Holley works as bad (or good, d |

Mate the thing is, i dont have a 202, i have a 186. what do you mean by modified 149, 161, 173 head? do you mean shaved and ported or do you mean a yella terra head?

Exactly. The 149, 161 and 173 high comp heads have smaller chambers and will increase the compression ratio of a 179, 186 or 202 high comp motor to over or about 10:1. This is basically how Holden made the XU-1 engines. By modified I do mean worked, like |

I don't give a ****. The Golf may have 147 horses behind it, but my torana will have the golf behind it.

What diff gears and gear box are you running? ..and how much older than you is your uncle? Personally I think the wager he provoked is like (presuming he is a good couple decades older than you) you saying to him that you should both have a running, jump |

I was thinking of running 4.44 gears and i'm getting either an aussie 4spd or a supra/celica 5spd. He's alot older than me actually. And i've got alot of parts already (carb, manifold, electronic dizzy, e.t.c) the budget will probably stretch further,
