about to replace carpet in hz wagon. but before doing so, what are the best solutions to reduce the heat from transmission and motor creeping into car..? is there a certain type of underlay or heat reduction products etc, or something similar that will reduce the temperature inside the car.

Where abouts are you geoff? There are a couple foam products out there that will also cut some of the noise down too..

If youve ever seen OverHaulin they use something for insulation for heat and sound but Im not sure what its called. Will try to find out for you.

this is going to sound stupid - but does the dynamat go under the carpet or is it fitted under car - like i said its a stupid question but im not 100% sure

If you go to P.J.Bowers at 5 Central Drv Burleigh Heads (or give them a call on 5593 8277) ask them for a some 10 or 15mm thick 'NSL'. It comes 1m wide, hopefully if you get them on a good day they'll give you some off cut, or it'll cost you ~$20 for a p
