Yep,it's the 5th gear I was referring to,OD probably wasn't the right description...so it is internal,the box was a conventional 5spd FWD transaxle with this weirdo electro-pneumatic shifter,a sort of 5th gear bionic arm. Not sure which models it appeared

Hey John Was that some sort of automatic box on the Hudson Terraplane, a preselector box or something like that? There's been some interesting stuff built over the years! MJ

For the early 3spd landcrusers You could buy a pommie made External overdrive.Fairly was the company name.

I just did a dogpile search and came up with this site http://www.faireyoverdrive.com/ now in the US of A And there are other people that do parts for them. It seems they are to suit Landrovers as well. You may be able to find one at a 4wd wreckers.Check

Madjack the strangest thing I have seen was a electricaly operated vacuum controled manual clutch set up on a diahatsu handivan.Oh it had a torque converter that was feed with oil thru the centre of the crank too. Edited by user Friday, 9 March 2007 6:40:03 AM(UTC)

yes preselector type. you move the lever and hit the clutch.
