Hey there , i have just recently acquired my 73 xb fairmont coupe after 6 month of looking and looking. Car is in very good condition on the inside with only a few minor repairs to get it back to original :)
Outside is ok , has minor rust in front l/h quater and rear r/h , also some in the back boot seal around the four corners .
Engine in it atm is a 6 cyl 250 . Now when i got the car it came with many many parts including 351 clevo , c4 auto , nearly all windows except front ,guages etc etc , i have a s&*t load of them !
Now my plan is to rip the old 250 out throw the clevo in , the old c4 that is in it will come out and i will replace it with a four speed , also the 8" will have to go and a 9" replacement put in.
Now to my questions....

1.Is it a matter of replacing the 250 with the 351 , will it need to be engineered ? Previous owner told me that he had the 351 in it at one stage.

2.Rust repair in back boot seal , what is the best product to use for this ? Most people are telling me to use fiberglass or get it re-welded , anyone had to repair the channel before ?

3.If anyone has a 4 speed and or 9" diff that they may want to sell / swap for parts please email me at [email protected]

Im sure my list of questions will get bigger , if anyone is looking for any xb coupe parts hit me up , i am going to make a list of all the parts when i get a chance .

Any help will be much appreciated , also would be good to hear from anyone that has restored a coupe .

Thanks

Mal.

Yep. shouldn's have any problems registering it with the V8. For the rust repairs from what you have described there is rust repair sections available. Don't do half measures with the rust repair, it will just come back and haunt you. Check out rare s

Make sure you take both front guards off, check the inner firewalls from the bottom corner of the windscreen down. Remove the kick panels from inside and check to see if cancer is coming into the inside of the car. It can also eat its way down from these

cuting out the rust is the only way, dont use fibreglass. You shouldnt have any dramas putting the 351 in. Do you have any rear wheel arch moulds? or rear exhuast panel with square cutouts? cheers

pretty much all the coupes start with J mate. Should be either JG65 falcon, JG67 fairmont or JG66 for GT

Acid dipped? That's pretty harsh stuff. Planning on lightening them so you can go racing? Get a quote on soda blasting or bead blasting the guards. These 2 methods are much less harsh on the steel. Avoid sand blasting if you can.

Heh , its only a really low acid percentage , the guy who does it has done quite a few xa and xb panels , basically it will remove everyting except the metal , rust, paint and bog will be history :)
