Hi all,
In the process of lifting out & re-fitting a 186 from an EH. Previously lifted (engine crane) via exhaust/inlet studs at 2 points with chain, with nuts over the chain & (forget the tech name...) bolts into 2 of the covers on the other side. Worked fine, but makes me nervous with a swinging engine held by 4 bolts. Is this the correct way (prefer not to run chains under the sump, & prob not lift out well in any event)? Thanks.

2 bolts would be enough, so don't be nervous about 4 bolts. |

A high tensile bolt in the coil mounting thread and a high tensile bolt in the earth lead thread as always worked for me.

253 with 2 bolts is still strong so a 186 should be a like a feather with 4

Thanks mate. I see the engine swinging & automatically calculate who is at risk if one chain goes. You are better off to be safe than sorry. I have seen jacks go down on there own and a mate of mine got three fractured ribs when a jack let go on him. He was lucky it could have been worse.
