VN or L34 heads on a 253 was discussed on the gmh-torana forum and the end result was that the valves will clear with 0.500" lift.

At around 450 thou lift, My valves are this far below the head

To me that means they will hit the block. So if you ran 500 thou lift and have a bit of valve float its not going t

Its not how far below the deck the valves are but their position, are the outside edges of the valves beyond where the edge of where the 253 bore is?

Relieving the side of the bore to clear valves has been done in other factory produced engines.

It depends on the bore size std yes 30 yes 40 no but not by much.This is a 40 thou bore.
