Hi, in have a 253 and a set of vn heads i was going to put on. I read in eariler comments that it may lose torque. I also have in my garage a 308 crank. If i built the engine with 253 block 308 crank mild cam and the vn heads with a carby and m20 4 speed. Would i be wasting my time ????????????????? Or just run into too many problems!!!!!!!!!! Thanks

The 253 doesent need a head upgrade to make more power, and the 308 crank is the same as a 253 crank. I can give you a grunt hunt article that street machine perfomed on a 253. They made 336 hp. You'll also save money doing things the right way, and use a

Cheers, the main reason for the vn heads are that my 253 heads need full reco where the vn ones are good. Would love to read article, which issue of street machine was it in.

Don't the valves in VN heads and L34valve size heads hit the side/top of the bore in 253?

Although the 253 and 308 cranks have the same stroke and will bolt in to the same block, they are not really interchangable as they are balanced differently due to the different piston weights in the 2 motors.

I don't know for sure, but I suspect that

L34 valves do hit 253 blocks and I suspect VN heads will too.
