hey all i have a hq 10 / 71 and im looking for a motor that will be the right date now iv found 1 that was made on 30 june 71 . what i want to no is how long befor the car was made was the eng made???? like do you think that can work as to make it look as the 1 it came out with???


and 2nd the motor in it dates to a hj and i was told by vic roads that motor was not in any other car. so do you think that can be the right motor??

A HQ is dated when the engine meets the body. So once an engine is built it is sent to the factory and attached to a chassis. The chassis is then fitted to a car and the car is dated. How long do you think this process would take?

Byron, I doubt that GM-H wold sell a second hand car 4 years later with anew engine, it would no longer be under warranty in 1974 and would just be sold as a second hand car.

the eng in it now is QR616606. and 1st reg in 71 but car was made in nsw but nsw rta dont no sh#% as they did not have pc's then. the long tag is 80837qh708097.

I can confirm it was an internal/special sales car. Warranty start and first registration was 10/71. No engine number was recorded as was apparantly normal with internal sales cars.

It is most likely is a reco motor, and like Warren said it could have been any old block they had at the time in the workshop. The 308 in my HJ was changed out at 200,000 kms and is a 78 block.
