Yes a GTS 350 sedan would be higher on the "muscle car tree" but not rarer than an HJ LS, the original statement. As you know rare does not make valuable and yes you might move heaven and earth for a GTS 350 4 door, but many would rather have a 202 powere

Hi Guys.

The muscle car definition probably differs between the USA & Australia, but if we stick to the US definition, as Warren Turnbull has quoted, it does bring up many anomalies.

To quote Warren, “This is why an HQ GTS 350 is not a muscle car,

What about the fact that once A9X production was started you couldn't get a 308 in the rest of the LX range? Does that hold water in making is a muscle car?

In the end though, I cannot see how anyone into Monaros woudn't classify a GTS 350 (whether it

Terry, the 350 in the HQ was available in LS and GTS therefore not a muscle car was the point. 308 in Torana is different to 308 in Holden, as pointed out. This was the original concept of the Muscle car, a big engine from a larger car stuffed into the sm

Hi Warren.

I stand corrected on the VZ Monaro CV8, it does have 260 kW. I was only counting the Hi-Output 250 kW version, so yes it belongs on the list.

I misconstrued your second sentence in that paragraph (“The A9X is an interesting one, as it doe

What about a HD/HR X2 or HR 186S? Or the EH S4 before the mods became standard?

Also, just for the sake of the argument, just assume that Holden never put the 350 into the Statesman and LS, making it no argument that the HQ 1837 coupe is a muscle car.

1) X2 and 186S was an engine option across the board, was available in anything, including utes and vans. EH S4 was not an engine option just a gearbox option and some other nice things, and I am still to be convnced they were made by GM-H (sorry Terry no

Here's some more "contenders":

The SLR5000 pre the release of the L34 option. It was a Stand alone "sports" version of the LH, with an engine available only in that range in that car, and the most powerful engine in the range.

Were there any special

Hi Jabba.

It looks like a real HJ GTS 4-door, originally 5.0-litre TH400, painted Persian Sand (Mk I) Metallic & trimmed in Chamois/Covert Vinyl trim.

Cool. And a right b^gger too. Was going to get it as project / street rod, but looking at info here, may be too good to muck about.

(And the nice chap selling it doesn't want over much for it, either)

Dr Terry.

Hi Guys.

To quote Byron: -
“under the "A9X rule"

To quote Warren: -
“so the A9X clause does not apply here.”

Have I created a monster here?

Seriously though, we should create an ‘Official Muscle Car’ list & have a proper debate

Hi Monaro202.

I missed your post while I was writing mine.

Were do I start.

Firstly, the Canadian Grey is a bigger myth than the EH 179 HP, it simply does not exist. ALL Grey motors, with the exception of hose in the first few (1946) FX prototype

The RPO83 as a whole probably should qualify due to the carby, the exhaust and other mods - this is basically the L34 in Ford form. But as far as I know no two of these are the same (there probably were 2 the same but i'm just trying to make a point) as F

Byron,

They did run out of 327s and fitted 350 block 327s to late HK GTS 327, so had they gone the sandman thing in the hK and fitted 327s, they would disqualify the GTS327, but they did not fit the 350 to the HQ sandman so they more than likely would

I think that they do qualify, but not the SS 5000 as it was simply an engine option rather than a model in it's own right. See my point on the new post on this.

hI ALL, the main thing in all this is the hj ls, its up to individual taste, so what if its a ls instead of a gts, besides Im sure that when the car was ordered, if the purchaser so desired they could have gts options fitted such as dash, maybe seats and
