Hi Guys. Am fairly new to this site and don't know if this subject has been covered before, so I apologize in advance if it has.. I am just about to pull a 350 out of my HZ Sandman and replace it with a 308. I have a T400 in at the moment, but the 308 comes with a T350. Now my dilemma Should I keep the 400 or change to the 350 when the 308 goes in, and will I have make any mods eg. tailshaft or will it just slip straight in to replace the 400.
Any and all thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Thanks Shane

Grouse F###ing site by the way

the 400 will bolt straight up to the turbo pattern block, 400`s are a very strong trans, tailshaft should be the same.

TH350 uses different yoke/tailshaft, kickdown (mechanical instead of TH400's electrical), crossmember plus more. Unless it's a very late HZ it will be a TH400 factory so i'd leave it (assuming it was originally a 308 auto).

Just make sure that it has the smaller TH350 size torque converter as that is what you need for a 308. Just check it against the 308's flex plate that the bolts line up.

Would I be able to swap the torque converters around by putting the one out of the TH350 behind the the 308 and TH400 and then putting the one that is now in the TH400 into the TH350 to put behind the chev or is it to big to fit in, if that makes sense

AFAIK the TH400 one won't fit in the TH350. The one in the TH400 may be the right one for the 308 as most TH400's that came into Australia were behind a 308.

What are you going to do with the 350 and what condition is it in?

James

If you need to know more check with an auto specialist. My experience with autos is limited to using the strongest one possible (TH400) and looking after them (plus what interchanges with what).
