As long as it's a stock or HSV memcal, you have a canister and a small ULP filler neck for the fuel tank it is OK in NSW. Not sure if WA is nuch different. I think they do an exhaust noise test over here too.

Is it a 308 with the fuel injection gear on it? or is it a 304 (VN - VT) motor with injection from factory? im assuming thats its an earlier motor with the injection gear (you said 308), so that should be easier to get over the pits as long as it is from Edited by user Monday, 9 July 2007 9:19:14 PM(UTC)

That Boom could make it harder. What you say is true for HT-HJ and LH/earlyLX but once you get into ADR27A and stricter you are probably better off with a complete later model engine. Otherwise you have to have to prove that the early block with late mode |

hmmmm.. thats very interesting, what year did the ADR27A come into action? oh and one more thing, why can you only use standard and HSV memcals?

ADR27A came out in about 76 with the LX Torana. The MEMCAL controls fuel mapping and therefore emissions.

But if putting performance memcals in is legal, then why would it make going over the pits harder? even if it does change emissions?

Hi Guys.
Boom, that's the problem, aftermarket 'performance' mem-cals are NOT legal.

Installing an aftermarket MEMCAL isnt illegal, emissions outside the allowed limits are. Therefore you can change the fuel mapping as long as you dont exceed the emission control standards for your vehicles ADRs.

HSV just about scrounged everything they could out of a couple of the injected 5 litre engines, specifically the VN SV89 and the VN Group A. So as these are legal (strictly only with the engine built as per the original application) that is the best way t |

Fallingbear - that is exactly what I did with my Overlander, except I used the whole 304. It runs on LPG and that is how I get around not having to comply with VP emissions levels. Yes you can put the VN onwards heads on an early engine but without the el |

so, if you really wanted to stuff around with the memcals; or in fact the emissions themselves, then the best way to do this would be to gain certification properly, and then change it. This is a very interesting topic, seeing how the government deals Edited by user Tuesday, 10 July 2007 10:47:42 PM(UTC)
