Guys,
Just now in the process of restoring my SLR 6 Cylinder (LX) and wanting your opinions.
As it is all original i will be spraying it the same colour.
My question is as it is a 6, i am thinking of replacing this with a V8 (308).
In terms of resale value down the track 3-5 years, would i be better keeping the 6 in it or replace with the V8.
Although my heart says goes with the V8, my brains saying to keep the 6 cylinder.
What are your thoughts?????

whatever you do. dont get rid of that original motor with those casting #s, and keep your banjo diff. dont modify / cut holes in Console / Dash either. keep it 6, but everyone is different.!

I sort of agree with Adam. Restore it body wise and interior to original. Basically everything as factory. But put what engine in it you like. If you use a 308, simply put a V8 Aussie 4-speed in it. The 6cyl and V8 boxes fit in exactly the same place, and |

I would be more than happy to own an SL/R 6 cylinder. When a car becomes a classic I think it doesnt really matter how fast it is. I get a lot of satisfaction out of cars that you actually have to drive rather than just sit there and try and look like it

I agree with the others. Don't do any alterations that cannot be easily changed. Any parts you pull off, no matter how tiny, put in a box in the garage and label them so you remember. Anything you pull off will probably not be available in a few years. T

Hi Jamie,
I have an LH G-Pak, which essentially is an SLR 3300, when it comes to the running gear. (202, M20 box, SLR diff ratios.)
I did a ring in the original engine after 220,000km a few years ago and had a mild rebuild done on the same engine.

Hey Guys,
You have pursuaded my thoughts and to keep the old 6 cylinder. Whilst it is out of the car, might give it a set of rings and bearings as it runs good as it is now.
