Generally speaking yes, a 100 amp gas welder is capable of welding aprox steel 3.5mm thick. The only thing to watch is the dutty cycles on those cheapies. You may spend more time smoking durries and drinking beer - than actually welding.

gasless is no good for thin material it burns too hot. its great for you carport or the fence or shed you want to build but no good for thin material.

100amp will be heaps! for tin work.

Gasless is for garden gates.

If you get a super cheap welder you will end up with a super cheap job on a super cheap car.

Spending about $700 on a decent 150A GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welder) or commonly called MIG, and hiring a gas bottle for about $100

same argument as last time
i have gasless mig and do all my rust repairs with it
1mm and less i have 120 amp and it works great
welds arnt the best looking but for rust repairs you grind the welds down any way

My brother used our Cig gasless unit to weld a new lower section onto a HG front gaurd last weekend and he got a very good result. You do need good wire though.

Have any of you guys with gasless setups tried using gas? You may be very surprised at how much your skill/ workmanship/ weld profile will be so much easier or better. I am saying this in a positive way.

"my gasless welds are nothing short of fugly"

"a little messy with thin metal"

Question was "Have you guys tried gas welding?"
