hey yall,
I have measured axle widths on transit, and was hoping to see whether I can transplant axle with vn>vp, or which ever one will do it, into transit van, here are measurments>>
drum to drum on transit= 63inchs=1600mm
drum to drum, is virtually end of axle?
wheel arch space, 1460mm tight, allow 25>30mm for clearance= 1500mm
I think i have to make sure whichever axle goes in, i can get strong steel wheels for, alloys wont cut it.
so if anyone knows axle measurements, and has a good idea, will be grateful,
dr tarry,s idea of cutting existing axle is still a possibility, but I do feel a complete changeover will be easier??
considering i want disk brakes, and cant get wider wheels for existing transit?
cheers

I was going to suggest a H233B diff out of a 1990s Patrol as they are strong as an ox and come in 3.9:1 (Ford Maverick) and disc brakes. But they dont have a handbrake.
So maybe a Dana 44 or 60 out of an F150 or F250 (5 stud) or Jeep Cherokee or J20 (6 s

the transits have a five stud pattern, but nothing fits them.!!! and i have found only one ste of nice wheels that fit it, and they were not nice? the only way to get bigger rear wheels is to have them made.

I could be wrong but I thought that Transit's, F100's, Chev C series/Suburban, some Bedfords and suzuki 4WD's all shared the same comparatively wide stud pattern.

Anyway please read my other reply about the Commodore VN axle being as wide as the Fal

Fallingbear please read my post about relocating cats. Im in the same boat or is that a miniature version of your ocean liner.

Firstly I think that the only factory ratios that you are going to find in an AU/BA/BF are 3.08, 3.27(maybe) & 3.45:1.

I think that you will not find a 2.92 AU diff as all AUs had an overdrive gearbox so they dont need a high ratio diff.

Having said that you can easily get one fitted with 2.92 gears.
