hi, just wondering ...

my 1974 HQ ute has the following info listed on the build plate (plate riveted above the heater)

MODEL HQ80480

ENG. TRANS. M40 RRAXLE GV3

i.e the engine type/option has not been stamped onto plate, it is blank

is this normal, rare or just monday morning hangover stuff?

Its normal. Not stamped if the standard engine was fitted.

I think the HJs were the first model to have all info stamped regardless.

The engine fitted can be found from the fifth letter of the VIN, U for 350, T for 308, R for 253, L for 202 D for 173. A 350 wouldnt have a Trimatic behind it though.

Check the date cast code just above the oil pump, will look like 10K4, and compare it to the cars build date. That number is fairly close as around 500,000 HQs were built.
