Hello all, Are there any rules & regulations regarding the placement of catalytic converters?
The problem that I have is with the VN V6 in my Capri the cat is directly fouling a welded in cross member so putting it underneath this cross member would not be good for ground clearance.
I presume moving it forward would be ok but then its beside my transmission (heat issues come to mind) so I would be better off moving it back a foot or so.
Would this be legal?
Regards, Jim..
It shi ts me to tears when the media & state politicians refer to the Federal Government as "Canberra" |

I have no idea jim, but, i could summize that the cat is there to collect harmful gases, and therefore one could argue, that so long as it is in between the engine, and outside world, it will do what it is designed to do? might even be betterer, closer, |

My theory is that if you move it back the gasses going into it will be cooler therefore the cats may be less effective.

The heat from the exhaust gases is an important part in ensuring the correct function of the catalytic converter. It is actually a chemical reraction taking place inside the converter and the heat plays a major role in this reaction.

Cats are basically an oven and do not work until they are hot (as above),, Exhaust gasses emmitted until the convertor is operating are EXTREMELY harmful, more so than leaded fuel,, When unleaded fuels were first used, we were issued with warnings about |

Mr wipe yes I am in agreeance with you on the oven thing. I think that I'll just place two smaller cats further forward (one either side)and extend the shielding so that it not only protects the floor (which I intended anyway) down so that it also shields |
