I just had a guy around here who reckoned the early GTS rims on HQ were made in Canada, and are slightly different. this is the second time i have heard this, the other was a separate occasion when a guy pointed out that the early HQ GTS rim has different welding on the inside.
Any further info appreciated, particularly when the change was made?. adam.

gts rims were sourced from pontiac and are called rally 2 rims..canadian rims run up till mid to late 73 i think..easiest way to pick a canadian rim is by the stampings on the outside next to the valve..if no stamping then they will be roh produced and wi |

Youll also find that the Canadian rims are 6JK not 6JJ. The 6JK rims have no safety bead on the inside. Also Greg, I think the L34 rims are blank near the valve stem as they were made in house by Holden. The A9X rims were stamped near to the stem as they |

Ive also seen an early HQ Monaro 8/71 with greyish paint instead of black on 6JK rims and yes, it was delivered from new that way.

i think its the other way around byron..l34 stamped/a9x not...will call a friend with a genuine l34 and ask him. |

I may be wrong but i think the early centres were spot welded to the rim and later centres welded too????

The safety rim thing is an ADR. Not sure when it was introduced.
Mario you are correct. Canadian rims are spotwelded like most HK rims. The aussie rims are welded.

1st series HQ had Pontiac rims 6.00JK x 14 Made in Canada. No welds at the rear of the centre hub.
2nd series HQ had Holden stamped rims 6.00JJ x 14. These had 3-4 huges welds at the rear of the centre hub.

I had a set many years ago dated early 70`s ,weld was different and had `made in USA` stamped in them 14x6 cannot remember the letter code.
