without the original motor I do not think it would matter about the drive line to much unless you want historic rego,
do the body and decals as per original to keep with the flavour of the car and maybe the interior.

I guess if you go back to original specs then you could drive around in a gutless Holden V8 powered van..

Or.. Keep the Chev and have power to burn...

i am with you luke!, especially if the van was L32.

Lets get back to basics,
Isnt this what being a petrol head is all about?

If I were you, I'd find a correct date code and engine prefix 308 for it. It will be worth more in the long run, even if it isn't the original motor. You can always stroke it if you want more cubes and at least it'll look original when you pop the hood.

You'd need a 308 with an engine number prefix of QT (not 11QT) and a date code (cast on the front top of your block behind the timing cover) around the same date as your compliance plate.

Guess it depends on how original you want your car.
To change from a chev to a holden engine, you need a fair few parts besides just motor and gearbox. Exhaust changes, wiring, Brackets for alternator, A/C if you have it, radiator, hoses.

You could restamp the block but it's illegal to do so.

Yeah it can but I think a police acid test would show the original number.
