My 2cents worth:

Rebuild the motor as original, using smallest oversizes necessary. Rebuild the heads with hardened exhaust seats (for ULP), standard size valves, new valve springs. Dont polish the heads, leave them as is but clean them up in

hey mate thanks for that, but a few questions.

What is better about the blue/black distributor? Ive just installed brand new points which really improved performance as i dont think they had been changed before LOL

Id problably go with the 350 exhau

The blue/black distributor (& coil) is a Bosch HEI (High Energy Ignition) system. They have no contact points that wear our & change timing (you just set & forget) & produce over 50,000 volts of spark. If you do lots of kms & dont want

On the exhaust, I think the 308 HG GTS had a twin system like the 350 anyway.
Go to Rare Spares and have a look at the woodgrain aftermarket stuff. They are pretty good. If you need a good glovebox lid go looking for someone wrecking a HG Premier.

im not sure on the exhaust, as nan got the exhaust replaced a while back as the stocker well died from old age. Il have a look around, and talk to a few spray painters and parts suppliers, and exhaust store and see what i can do

i think twin exaust with the double tips on each was a GTS option for any V8 HT and HG monaro, looks good

With the rebuild and cam selection, for on the street I would go with big cubes and the lowest revving spec range you can find. Had an HQ ute which came with 400 cube chev which had been set up for street / strip work. It was next to useless on the str

HAHA NICE. Talked to dad tonight, and supposably, the whole front end of the monaro comes off, looked at the chassis rails, and sure enough, the front end is bolted to the chassis rails, i didnt believe it until i saw it.

2 things I forgot.

Make sure the water pump is the correct HT/HG type before you get it rebuilt. The get it rebuilt by a pro, there are only a handfull of guys in Aust that can recon old water pumps properly.

il drop by with the monaro 1 day and have a talk to that fella mate, and see what he thinks, get him to check the monaro over and get his feelings on the car, if he thinks its a huge task to undergo, il keep it simple, if he thinks its within my standards

im not restoring this for judging, i just want a nice, reliable, fresh car to have as a weekend car. If it turns out good, il proly go into some shows, but most likely just for show, not comps.

The good thing is, this monaro has ALL matching numbers,
