I have a recollection that with the release of the HJ, a contempory road test mentioned something like "thinner gauge steel in some areas, strength is not compromised"
Perhaps a HJ bootlid is ligher than a Q?

Hi Adam. This was brought up on Oldholden a while back and I talked to a guy (John) that has a 3rd 1974 HQ and his boot lid was the same as my SS one. It was also mentioned by someone else (Rockett)in that thread that there is a early and a late HQ

HQ SS, are you aware of the early and late HQ gauge styles. I am also trying to find out if all HQ SS and Sandmans had the standard 120mph speedo or were some released with a GTS 140mph speedo. All the brochures I have or have seen show a standard speed

Hi Absinth. Are you referring to the early magnetic type gauges verse the thermal gauges Or the prior to ADR 18 GTS type fuel/oil gauge and a after ADR 18 fuel/oil gauge which are both magnetic type gauges. It my parts book it lists the prior ADR 18 Edited by user Sunday, 11 May 2008 3:01:21 AM(UTC)

Hi Paul, the part number change is probably magnetic to thermal but don't know much about that. All GTS gauges are VDO, the speedo's are a mixture of VDO and Flex-drive. HQ was the changeover from VDO instruments to Flex-Drive instruments as VDO don't app Edited by user Sunday, 11 May 2008 9:05:49 AM(UTC)

Thanks for that Absinth. I have never noticed the difference before and it has been literally been right in front of my face. In my car I have fitted large letter fuel/oil gauge and when I had a problem with the temp/amp Gauge, I have swapped it for Edited by user Sunday, 11 May 2008 9:53:46 AM(UTC)

Just a couple of other things. Sorry Adam we seem to have taken over your thread and the other thing is would ADR 18 have been when they changed from the silver dash fascia to the mat black fascia or was this done before or after the 1st of Jan 72. Hi Adam. I will be interested to see what you find as I have looked at all three of my HQ bonnets and they all look the same, But I have not been able to extract my HZ bonnet from the back of my ute yet to be able to compare it. Paul
