I recently purchased a motor advertised as a roller cam block. Couldn't find anyone that knew how to look up engine numbers I tried Holden Australia, 2 Dealers and the DPI.
The engine number is 16234531
How can I confirm it's a roller cam VS/VT? (with out pulling the top end appart)
Motor doesn't have fanbelts or extractor but is other wise complete.
The computer is 16234531 and is chipped and says VS III V8 CJYN A HP2 (Chip Torque) - I am paranoid how ever I would rather confirm by looking at the motor.
I've searched for two days and from what I can tell the VM prefix was associated with VSIII but did it cover any other motors? If this is a roller cam block from a VSIII is it a 179kw or a 195kw?
I read correctly the VT HSV had 195K and the standard VT had 179kw whilst the poster claimed the older VS Series III VMxxxxxx had 195kw??? (maybe wishfull thinking but i read it somewhere and was told it also by the guy who i baught it from)
Thanks for the info

All Holden 5.0L engines post VT (including VSIII) are roller cam, sequential injection engines. Prefix is VM. This includes the HBD 195i engines, which are identical internally to the 179kW. 195kW had knock sensor, different exhaust, cold air intake and d |

The VT 195 KW has a biger cam. and exhaust valve is same size but has a thiner stem at near the head. all 179 KW sequental have knock sensor. if i could tune it and get rid of the knock sensor i would they are rubbish! just dont run 91 octane.

Hi Guys.
The 195 kW WAS available as an option across the VT I model range. It was sold as an HBD (Holden by Design) option.
To my knowledge it also had the engine prefix VN, where the std 179 kW V8 was VM.
There were a few internal differences b |

As far as I was aware only the HSV 195kW engine with the valve and cam mods was a VN prefix. I thought the HDB 195kW was still VM/SVM and had no internal mods. Someone please clarify this??
Also, the VSIII ute brochure I have is dated July '99 and it l |

A bit of trivia for you:
The regular 179kw motor had silver engine covers (curved VT style)
The HBD 195i had red engine covers and the holden logo remained. The HSV 195i had red engine covers, but the holden logo was machined out, and the HSV emb |
