with all of this tag swapping going on,...
you would have to have your head in the sand if you deny it, it is becoming common. i get offered tags all the time examples of going rates: SLR $1000 GTR $1000 xu-1 $3000
Good luck to them i say, why?
if they want to build a replica, pay $$$$$$ for for 100 little items off ebay to make it right (an it still won't be right) and then get busted when a shrewed matching numbers guy looks at it, and the whole holden community will know its a fake. what for?????
They would be better off buying the real deal in the first place.
they are fooling themselves in most cases,
saying its illegal on a forum isn't going to stop it.
so let them go, sell them all the crappy little bits they need to do it for a small fortune like 16:1 steering boxes for HKTG etc... don't tell them anything they have missed. for when that car is judged, and busted, it will forever be a fake. Justice will be served,
if your reading this and thinking, "i will be right, i know how to build a faker" Goodluck.

I made some enquiries with a company that was selling all three plates for $1500, no matter what you wanted on them. You can get them out of the US for about $500. They are pretty good the ones form the US and there are at least two "companies' making th

Warren when you say 'having it checked' before hand, do you mean having it checked by a holden fan, or having it checked by the police/RTA..? Ive tried to have numbers checked by the RTA (vic) but without a previous rego they cant tell you a thing about t

The numbers on the tags are not known to the RTA or Police. All they have is engine and chassis number on pre VN Holdens.
You need to have it checked by a Holden expert and yes if they have all the bits then unable to tell but about 90% of the fakes do

If you have a matching numbers car and want to fool the unknowledgeable you could make up a new set of tags with incorrect info to protect the real identity of your car, as rego authorities only use engine and chassis nos the VIN and body nos can be varie |
You only have to be in front at the end of the race. |

What if you have a real car and over the many years it has been on the road, a few of the original parts have been replaced due to wear. The steering box, instrument cluster, special clips, bits, bobs etc. |

Not only that what if you have an original car and strip it down to a shell to restore it and in the process replaced most of the parts with others in good nick you have gathered over the years. All numbers will match.. chassis tags and motor. Is this ca

Peter / sammy, i think that these cars will be devalued accordingly. depending on how much has been changed, they will keep their "real" status.
but, you have to draw a line in the sand somewhere.

In restoring a car you can use bits from other cars, eg a GTS 327 only has a handfull of parts that are not common to other Holdens, they are:
Fuel tank engine sway bar shocks
So if these are not there it is not a fake it is just not quite finish

I don't bother with compliance plates, as they are technically illegal to posess, however I do collect the 'body plate' from commodores (the one with model, paint, trim, eng, trans etc on it) as they are not really an illegal item. Even pushing the point |
