Going from conversations with mates, date codes, engine, gearbox, carb etc it has been said they are in the year of 71 , would this be the same fo intake and exhuast maifold would the L30 engine be date coded 71 for the GTS4 ???? although they had a short run from 3/73 to 8/73 lets say a six months run . Byron Rich quoted that the date format would be MDY usa , was the engine for the GTS4 350 an imported us engine ???? who knows JBM quoted that they were not imported engines , anyone !!!!!! Byjingo what does your have mate ,
is it in that range ,or am i way off with my infor above, the other 4 manual cars that Mark knows off, should all marry up . has any of these GTS4 been judged at natoinals ? are the GTS4 autos any different in date codes as per year or in the 71 range ?????

Th engines used in HQ 350s, Statesman, Monaaro GTS 350 and Monaro LS, plus a couple of "specials" are all the same, manual and auto.

I doubt a 71 engine would be in stoclk in 73 when they made the first GTS 4 doors. Not sure about you date for the last

If you have the full engine number we cantry and find what type of car it came out of and when.

All the 350s were imported but they were then iven an Australian engine number, this is the critical number and probably what JBM meant.

The manual examples I know of are original and date coded 1971 engines, one of these is a late production Melbourne vehicle and still has a 71 engine. I am guessing....but as manual 350 vehicles were much lower production than autos it took longer to use up the stock of engines....therefore they were older when fitted. So I would say that manifolds, carby, water pump, starter motor and gearbox should be date coded 71 if it was/is an original example, it was all assembled with the engine in Canada(McKinnon plant) in 1971.

If you are trying to match up your engine date code to see if it fits in sequence with others you really need to find an original example from the same VAP as your own, and compare numbers and date codes. Not an easy task.

There is no difference in a maual and auto engine, so that theory is flawed. It was different in the HT and HG but not HQ.

3970010 casting number for the L30 egine
The casting numbers tells you alot, the 010 at the end means it is a Chevy 350, the 70 means it is out of a 70s model vehicle and the 39 means (if I remember correctly ) that it is from a 71 350 vehicle??.
the gerabox in the 4 speed 350 gts4 were not m22 they were m20 dated 71 like the engine a all other parts intake exhuast etc
i have seen markings L240 on the GTS4 , but do not know what it means , anyone know ???? and seen on other toranas L340 , am i wrong by saying the gts4 was a L24 and the toranas were a L34 ?????
