There are 2 versions of the M20, 1 for a V8 and 1 for a 6, the difference is the input shaft.

M20 were the common box behind the 202 but were also used for the 253. The 308 used the M21. I not sure about the M21 in the XU1, whichever box you use will need to have the correct shaft, 1 is longer than the other.

You'll rarely find a genuine XU-1 M21. Most were fitted with the normal XU-1 box with the 899 cluster and 1.25:1 3rd gear. As to the original question, any V8 M20, M21 or even a made up M22 will fit. they are externally the same. Unless you have a 3.55 d |

Hi Byron. The XU-1 box (899 cluster) was called the M20 as you say, but have you ever seen an XU-1 body tag or any paperwork to suggest that any of the other XU-1 boxes were called an M21. Have you ever seen or known of any XU-1 that came from the f Edited by user Thursday, 17 January 2008 10:23:19 PM(UTC)

Terry
I have always called them M20 as a GTR XU-1 has nothing on the body plate, meaning the box is standard. But apparantly the 899 cluster XU-1 box was simply called an XU-1 4spd. Not M20 or M21. I call the 1.38:1 3rd gear 6cyl box an M21 as it is i |

Hi Byron.
I have seen several XU-1s with M20 on the body plate. I believe this was only done at the Adelaide factory, in late LJ production.
AFAIK there were 3 different ratio sets homologated for the XU-1 including the 2.32 1st gear type box.

I understand the M20 BODY plate bit. What I meant was Holden would appear to have never seen the XU-1 box as anything other than an M20, even though it was a different ratio. The fact late Elizabeth cars have M20 makes it seem even clearer. To be 100% cor |

i have always sold 2.32 1st gear 6 cyl boxes as "bathurst" boxes. to avoid confusion. these boxes usually have yellow paint XU on the side.

I'm surprised you've ever found one. They were so rare the input shaft never even got a part number. It was a homologation option only for 1973 Bathurst XU-1's. I'd be surprised if more than a dozen ever existed.

i would have owned / sold 4-5 of them, 2.32 1st gear 6 cyl boxes. so they must have been more common than that. my 5/72 car also had one in it - not saying it was factory thou..

so you single handedly dealt with half of the X-U1 boxes? i think you may be mistaking it for another box.
If nissan motorsport is nismo, then doesnt that make honda motorsport Homo?

Are you sure you're not talking about standard XU-1 boxes with the 899 cluster? The 2.32:1 1st gear box has a cluster unique to this box and an L34 race box. Input shaft part number starts with EREW
