in choosing a 308 block a choice has to be made a turbo or a trimatic as one can now get beefed up trimatics which block should i choose cheers ps its only going to be a warm 308

Ithink you will find Turbo boxes are cheaper to get tricked up so I would go that way but sayign that I have a tidy traumatic I will be putting behind my tramatic pattern block |

A trimatic would do the job, turbo`s are stronger and dearer to buy.

Remember there are 2 different 'Turbo' boxes, the Turbo-Hydramatic 350 & Turbo-Hydramatic 400. They are not the same. The TH400 is a very strong durable box, good for heavy drag cars, where a 3-speed is needed. The TH350 is a lightweight by co |

In regards to Tri-matics being underrated the design was bought by Rolls-Royce.

JBM, Rolls and Jag both used TH400s because of their strength and shift quality. John what box would depend on your application, the car its going into ie the weight, Id go for trimatic unless you have a stato or do lots of towing, but make sure you have |

TH400 were factory fitted to engines from 308-502 cubic inch.
Tough as gutz..!!
Trihard boxes were fitted on engines up to 308 at the most.
Gotta spend quite a few $$ to get them to hold up to a strong motor. Under-rated or no

I have had several boxes built for race cars over the years and are as yet to hear from a trans expert that a crummy ol

I think the TH350 is an excellent trans and much better than a trihard box
I have had several boxes built for race cars over the years and are as yet to hear from a trans 'expert' that a crummy

why? some of the raceglides today have been able to handle 800+hp with the same rebuilds as turbo boxes. Trimatics are light, soak up less power, and all transmissions cost the same to trick up when you go for big power anyway, so why not go with somethin

Are there any tricks to get a trimatic as 'smooth' as a TH400 (eg different type of clutches etc)? I have 3 WBs with V8 Trimatics and the upshifts and downshifts are no where near as smooth as the TH400 in my HQ. Other than that I am very

I believe raceglides in melboure does a kit that completely fixes all the mess that holden left the trimatic with from factory, e.g. a second ring in 1st gear piston stops in leaking, more clutch packs in 2nd and 3rd (IIRC they used seven in 3rd gear) and
