Hello, I would like to know what "real" holden straight six is best for some turbocharged action. I have a 173 sitting here but know basically nothing about the holden sixes and less about turbocharging. If I can be taught about both then that would be good. Thanks in advance, Phill

real holden 6? there isnt much choice.. so id have to say a 202.

but an RB30 (even though it is nissan) from a VL would be better, and if you go to that much effort, you may aswell go for a toyota 2JZ.. which would have to be the best 6cyl for boost.

oh, blue black motor have strongest crank (bar 3" forged) and rods.
If you go for the 173, or anything smaller than the 202, go for the forged crank, standard in any pre 1967 6 cylinder. also in GTRs and 186s.

But the blue/black cranks can handle 300

you wont make that with an SC14 blower. go turbo, you can make even more power for nothing after setup. thats the real killer. Mine will be making 410-420hp.
Are you going efi or carb?

guys its way too easy to forget that these blocks will not handle the power.

Plenty of people have extracted big numbers from a red 6...and they will tell you that they just start to tear themselves apart at around the 350 hp mark...cracks thru the lif

Im happy to go efi merely for tuning to its optimum, Im also not looking for a strip animal (I have another car for that) I just want something with a bit of poke for a cruiser. I figure a pretty tuff aspirated 6 will make 300, so with boost being the pow

Famous US enging builder Smokey Yuknic pulled 1000 HP out of a 210 chev (very simular to holden 6)

A1 Bogan.
Old holdens brought on the spot, quick decision, cash paid.

My 202 with Eaton M90 blower running 6psi boost, straight LPG. It got 120kw at the rear wheels, and 583 Nm of torque. I'm happy with it. Idles at 700rpm as quiet as you please like any well tuned Holden 6, but will easily turn the back wheels as low as 20

The M90 is a little bit different to the SC14, it's a much better blower, and flows heaps better.

Got a better idea for you, and ive said it here before. Look around at Chev truck wreckers and get a 292 Chevy straight 6. Looks just like a 202 if painted up right - enough to fool anyone looking from a distance, especially with turbo plumbing. Best bit
