Only derated for XX7. If it's an XU3 will still be 2200kg for a V8.

HJ-HZ V8 XU3 Sandmans are 2200kg. Prior to 1976 model there was no XU3, only XX7 and these were 4850lb for V8 HQ and 2200kg for V8 HJ ie no derating.
HJ-HX 6cyl XU3 are 2155kg (no 6cyl HZ Sandman).

ok, how do you tell the difference between a V8 2 seater belmont and a XU3 sandman
(apart from the tyre placard sticker and roof lining, interior light)

Roof lining and interior light switches dont even guarantee Sandman as both were options on base model. There are a few other telltales though, like HX,HZ trim (sometimes), floor shift (standard on Sandman but again optional on base model). XU3 are very h

i looked at a van about 4 months ago

HX, 1977, WM 70, adelaide car
L31, M21, 2 seater
White on black trim
GTS dash,
full head lining,
i had the opportunity to buy, but declined because of 2200 GVM.

was that a mistake? how do i prove / disprove?

If it had black trim then you can actually tell with this one. If it was a Sandman it would have been 18V. If not, 19V.
