I have a VS SS Ute and a few people have told me it could be a limited edition with only 300 made. Does anyone know if this is true and where the proof can be found. it is a 99 model and it's definately an SS so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Depends if it was type 1 or 2. Type 1 has the rectangular throttle body cover. Type 2 has the rounded one.
Factory quoted figures were 165kW type 1 or 179kW type 2, unless they are HBD engines which will be 185kW/195kW respectively.

Thanks again Byron but what do you mean by rounded throttle body cover. Are you referring to the front engine cover plate or the centre section of the throttle body?
Also how are the HBD engines identified?

HBD engines have a HSV Memcal and on the earlier engines have a knock sensor (standard ones dont, but do on the later type). Mick or Dr Terry will ne able to tell you wh

On VSIII it was because I owned one and I was looking to buy an SS. If it's type 2 it'll have a knock sensor anyway. From memory any HBD options will be listed on the BODY plate (the one with TRIM, PAINT etc on it). The ute should probably have 195i on th
