Looking for an A9X expert to offer technical info on genuine A9X Rally Wheels. I have seen wheels that have been spot welded (or riveted) and I have recently seen wheels that have been welded externally with the weld runs showing where the rim meets the centers? Which is the correct wheel and how does one decipher the numbers??

I think this is how it goes:

Spot welded rims are early HQ, made in Canada.
L34 rims were made in house by Holden and have no 14x6JJ near the valve.
A9X rims were made by ROH like the rest of the GTS rims.

From memory about 1" deeper in dish, or o

I have a set of A9X on my Sandman van in holden museum I will go down and have a look and let you know, but I am sure that there are no external welds on the outer face. The value Mikey states may be correct as I have been offered $5000 for the five rims.

Would you swap the A9X ones for HQ ones?

No not really, I have knocked back a $5000 offer for them for the simple reason they look so good on the van, and I also have quite a lot of spare H series rims. I know they are not original but they really set the van off. Once I find out how to put on a

I also should have mentioned I may know of a set of A9X for sale. A local bloke here found a set, I will check if he still has them.

The A9X wheels will give you a narrower track because of the offset, the Torana ones are -1/4" and I think the HQs are +1/2".

According to Just Holdens Magazine, Issue 4 Page 32, A9X Rims are identified by the prefix 231 stamped on them (exactly where it does not say).

One sold at Auction (and guess which auction folks!!!) 2 days ago for $2,666 (ONLY ONE RIM!!).

You say your confused, James! How do you achieve a greater offset without changing the rim size. Surely these rims must have been manufactured 7" and not 6"
