My 186 motor in my HG ute has blown up. bummer.
I'm looking at putting a replacement motor in it. I've found a few 202's that look alright. Are there any drama's doing this?
Will my 186 manifold and headers fit straight onto the 202 block?
I have heard that I will have to change the sump and make a few other adjustments, what are they?

Any help will be appreciated.

Motors are identical externally (well all but). If the 202 doesnt have a HK-HG sump youll have to fit a HK-HG sump and pickup. But thats about it.

I went from a 149 to a 161 to a 202 red and the only items I had to change were keeping my sump. I already had a 202 carby and manifold on the 149, so it went along for the ride. There wouldnt be a massive difference between a 186 and 202 carby.

Forgot - has to be a red 202 to be 100% compatable. Blue and black have a different head and hence different manifold and exhaust.

If theyre both reds, put the 186 head on the 202 bottom end for a bit of extra compression (smaller chambers if i remember). Rebuild it first of course.

I just did my red 202. 40thou over, mild crow cam, ported the head and put in larger valves. It sco

Ok, cool, so why's the swap so popular? Inlet runners better, different valves?

rocker studs instead of bridges, making the rockers adjustable.

the small chamber heads start from 173 IIRC.
