hi ...ive got some 253 engines (4 of them).what can i use to build up a 308?
i know you cant use the pistons or crank....but what about heads lifters pushrods and all the other stuff?

any advice would be appreciated....jim

you can use heads, conrods, crank, and all the valvegear, sump, pickup, oil system
manifold.

you can use the crank, it is lighter than the 308 crank, so get it balanced. if not get a 308 crank.

Jim, what engine numbers are the 253's?, you may have a rarer one that someone may want for $$$ to go toward your 308.

Don't use the 253 crank in a 308. Get a 308 one. They are cheap as chips.

i was just explaining that he can use it and it fits. obviously, with the extra weight of the pistons, the rotating assembly will try to shake itself apart.

Which means you can't use it, but you are right it does fit. There are 2 x types of cranks as well - rope rear main and neoprene rear main. If you need a 308 crank i'd probably have one here.
