So, on my warm 202 i've got a single 2inch strommy. Rebuild kit through it. Motor's brand new. Reconditioned dizzy, new points, cap, leads, plugs. Coil is stock.

Trouble is, i play and set the thing, timing, idle, mixture, and get it purring, idle and at revs...but then i turn the car off, back on shortly later, still nice and warm, and she's spluttery, won't idle at all without choke aiding it. But seems ok at revs.

Sometimes this even happens if i've got it all set, blip the throttle and it settles back into this gruff, crap idle.

I've checked all wiring, even eliminating my tacho from the circuit. Makes no difference.

Has to be carby or fuel right...any ideas?

Also, only once, whilst out driving, the car just stopped at 3500 rpm and wouldn't go higher. At all. Backed off, got on it around the next corner and she swings smoothly past.

I'm baffled, so i've come to my happy place. Hope you can help :-)

on a `warm` 202 I would run a twin barrel stromberg as per 186S, I also would use electronic ignition from a blue 202 for better consistant spark.
Is the dizzy sercured tight to the motor after adjusting, if not it can move around upsetting the timing,

Vacuum leaks? Is the condensor new as well? Any new paint under an earth wire?

you might have an air leak somewhere causing it to run lean. have you checked for slop in the throttle shaft etc? spray some wd 40 around the shafts with the engine running see if it makes a difference.
