On my 308, i am having some problems getting fuel to the carby. Please help... I automatically thought it was the fuel pump so pulled it off and broke it down, it appeared very clean and in good condition, the diaphram was flexible and not hard at all despite the motor's potentially long sitting time (not sure how long it was sitting for before i bought it). So i put it in a bucket of fuel and just using my hand, i could somewhat move the arm and it pumped plenty of fuel through no worries. I could also see a shiny metal face on the arm from the cam. So i put it back in. I then turned my attention to the rest of the fuel system. I could suck fuel up getting no air through the lines just using my mouth so i assume the rest of the line (pickup, line etc.) back to the tank is fine. I then tried to start it once more with the fuel line disconnected at the inline filter - just behind the pump. Putting my finger on the end of the fuel line leading into the fuel pump and onto the carby, there was no suction from the pump on my finger. So i am back at the fuel pump!
Can anyone please suggest what to look for before i pull the pump out again. Or any other places to look?
While i didnt look at it in great detail last time i removed it, the fact it worked in the bucket said to me it should work. Please help... i put some fuel in the carby direct and it popped a couple of time so i know its ready to start - just need some fuel to replenish it.

This sounds to me like the fuel pump isnt being activated when it is suppose to be. So have a look where the fuel pump meets the side of the block there should be a plate and behind that make sure there is a pump rod, which pushes on the lever of the fuel |

Hi Guys.
HKPremier is referring to Chev V8s. The 308 fuel pump operates directly. Its off a cam, bolted to the front of the cam sprocket.
It sounds like the cam bolt may have come loose & let the little cam rotate . You might have to remove the wat |
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0 |
