i am trying to start a 138 grey motor. it hasnt been started for a few years. It was a good runner before it went into storage. I have changed plugs oil point leads etc. Electrics are ok, it wants to fire but just dosent. what else can i do

check for spark , put on a timing light or disconnect a lead slightly, check that the carby is spraying fuel,if all else fails buy a can of `start ya bastard` or aero start, squirt in the carby and turn over.

is there anyway i can roughly do the timing, i am not sure how to do it

have you changed the fuel, if not how long has it been there?
doesnt last long these days and stinks when it gets old, you may need to drain the old out of tank and replace

I left a 179 for about a year and then couldn't start it. During my efforts to start it I pumped in plenty of juice. This had the effect of rinsing all the oil off the rings/bore, so there was no compression.

Once I squirted a bit of oil into each cy

the motor hasnt been started for over 20 years! the car had been sitting in a shed. i didnt drain the fuel, i topped it up. (the lazy way)

I started a vauxhall L series circa 1949 basically engish FJ last yr that was last run in 1977, hooked up gravity feed to the carby,
lot of huffing, smoking and rattles for about 15 mins then oil circulated and engine heated a bit and it idled roughly,

I got a 1965 Corona started out the farm the other day. It apparently hadn't been started for 12 years, was sitting in the shed when I bought the place. Put a new battery in, tipped some fresh fuel down the carby and 60 seconds later it's sitting there id
