Does anyone know what parts of a 308 can be used in a 253.

The 308 crank counterweights are too heavy for the 253 rods and pistons as mentioned above. A 253 bore is 3.625" and the 308 is 4" so pistons arent interchangeable. Stroke is the same. James ------------------------------------------------------- Edited by user Friday, 18 July 2008 6:09:52 PM(UTC)

You only have to be in front at the end of the race. |

All bolt on parts. Inlet manifold, dizzy, waterpumps, sumps, cams, oil pumps, lifters, pushrods, rockers, rocker covers... almost everything except, as mentioned, crank, pistons and rods. I am not 100% on the heads either.

The whole lot minus the crank and pistons. And as Boom says, really big valve heads will hit the deck but standard ones are fine (not VN though as they are big valve). 308 carby will need either primary or secondaries changed too (cant remember which).

When you say VN head is that the VN Commodore head I'm surprised it would fit the 308, is it the same size and shape as the 308.

Yes VN-VSIII V8 heads bolt straight onto HT-VL 253/304/308 blocks, but the valves hit the deck of the 253 due to smaller bore.
