Has anyone bought a reconditioned hq - wb steering box.if so do you know if they install new gears etc and if you have bought one are they nice and tight when you bought them ( Like a new one )

It depends what people define as 'reconditioned'.
Many workshops just dismantle, clean & reassemble the box with a new seal kit & called it reconditioned.
With the HQ-WB type, they require a bit more than that. The pinion valve alway |

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.I have one in my 32 Ford Hotrod ( It's OK it has all chev and Holden running gear )and it does have a little steering play.So you would say that a rare spares reconditioned unit would eliminate most play th

I have bought 2 reconditioned/exchange HQ-WB power steering boxes from Australian Power Steering (via Coventrys in WA) for two different vehicles. The first one I bought was tight with no play at all, but the second one had play in the straight ahead posi

is there a manual steering box that is easy or perhaps easier than the one i have in my HQ Kingy?
My car originally made in 1974 and matched to a 202 engine, i now have 7 inch rims at the front and steering at slow speed is heavy, no problem at the hi

John, the HX and later manual steering boxes are a better ratio for easier steering at lower speeds, but you need to twirl them a bit more when doing U turn!! They arent like a powersteer box but they are better!
