Hi Folks. I'm hoping someone can give me some clues regarding the fuel gauge in my ZD Fairlane. I have had the gauge fixed up when the gauge cluster was reconditioned in the rebuild, I have just had a sender unit rebuilt with all new components and installed it but nothing is happening at the gauge. If I check the voltage at the wire to the sender unit with a multimeter how many volts should I be getting as a starting point? Any info about other things to check would be appreciated.
Cheers

Is the sender unit earthed? Remove the wire from the sender and earth it whilst someone watches what the fuel gauge does (with the ignition on of course).

There should be a metal clip that connects the main fuel line to the tank outlet which carri

Hi Jim, Thanks for your input. I've tested the wire by earthing it and nothing happened. I have also put a multimeter on the wire and it isn't showing any current. I'm now pulling the dash facia out to have a better look at things back there. I have a s

not sure on the ZD, but in the XK-XP Falcons, the fuel gauge ran off the Temp gauge, so if the temp gauge was faulty the fuel one wouldn't work. I think that was the order.

Hi, You're dead right there. The wiring diagram shows the power feed running via the temp gauge. The temp gauge is working fine as that was also sorted out in the dash recon so I'm now wondering if there is a break in the power supply from the temp to t

It turned out to be a wiring connector in the system working its way lose. It probably happened with all of the activity under the dash, putting everything back in...it's always the little things that catch you. :)
