Anyone with any advice on areas to pay special attention to when looking at EJ Holden sedans? |

yep if the ad says EJ for sale..... unless it says prem you would be better off buying a HR to HQ
there is nothing pretty about drum brakes

rust in the undercarraige, y-frames, boot,floors. plus rust you can see panels.
if resprayed check for bog with a small magnet, 138 is not a fast motor but pretty reliable in good cond.
perfomance parts are available for the 138 if your keeping it. I re

Hqgts...im already in an HQ mate! Id be looking at fitting a later-model front end anyway.

hi, in addition to the rust places mentioned above, check the metal around the inside front and rear windscreens at the corners, a common place where they go, cheers f.

why is it that most "OLD" holden forums seem to assume that old holden only means from HQ-WB????
mate an EJ or EH is worth 5 HQs
the guy was only asking for advise, he wasnt asking to be bagged

Just be a realist, you are buying a 45 year old car, expect a few problems and you wont be to dissapointed.

Hi , youll be hard pressed to buy one you wont have to work on.just make sure the work isnt too expensive or you can do most yourself,ps the magnet trick only works sometimes but i always do it.There is metal in some of the new bog out there,the best comm |

Cheers all...im well aware of the pitfalls involved with buying old cars. Im capable of all mechanical work, as ive done with this HQ and my Alfa before that, just body work that gets me.

You won't have any problems with the fibre glass guards with RWC.
Fibre glass guards are a real option these days as good steel guards are just too expensive if you can't prep a set yourself. If fitted properly there are only visually a couple of ways yo

The rear apron under the bumper as you described is also available as a new fibreglass panel so the one you are looking at probably has this in glass if the front guards are.
