hi
Im currently building up a 186 to go into my torana. I was wondering if anyone has come accross any good combo's yet? what times have they ran down the strip on what diff ratio?

the only decent times you are going to get, with decent power and economy, is if you put a turbo or supercharger on it. i know of a torana that runs low 13s with a small supercharger on gas, great power, and didnt cost too much. (SC14 supercharger is $400

30/70 cam, bathurst 6000 yella terra head, balance the motor, go for good rod bolts, and run twin strombergs, headers, and open up the exhaust.
14 sec. with M20 box 3.36 diff 210 km/h no problem. with good fuel econ.

The cheapest, and best bang for buck performance upgrade you will ever get with a 186 is to take the 186 crank and scrap it. Then do the same for the block. Then go to a wreckers and buy a 202 block and crank for $25. And rebuild it, doing basically as Ro

yer i was wanting to use the 186 because it can rev higher than the 202 if done right

For what reason though? To make it go harder? The best way to do this is to increase torque, and you do this with a 186 by stroking it, which is what a 202 is. I reckon the 186 revving harder is a myth anyway. If it's not it's only a few hundred rpm, and
