As i drive, theres a constant high-pitched ringing noise...the sort made by something metallic on a spinning shaft if it's loose. I know that should pigeon-hole it, but i can't find anything. It's a shrill, high-tingle.

Then, today, sitting it idle, a HORRIBLE noise. My neighbour heard it from in his house and came out to see what it was. Imagine if you had a lump of lead being flung around your bellhousing. A deeper clunking, random, but constant and heavy.

Then it dissappeared by the time i got the car in the garage and up on stands. Pulled the pan off the bellhousing, can find nothing. Start the car up, can't make it rattle anymore.

Engine has been idling a liiiittle rough of late, but seems to run fine.

Anything, anyone?

Is the car an auto.

If so I would be pointing the finger at the Torque Converter.

These things are so funny.

Morning after posting, i found it. Its a manual, and all original (3 on tree) so everythings worn. To the point where, popping it in neutral, it wasnt quite..and the gears clashed as the linkages shook ever so slightly...caus
