2800 turbo diesel 4x4 diesel major nocking in engine blows lots of smoke when i first start it up anusual for a diesel motor to brake down like this i thought only 200000 kms any ideas fellow holden fans ??

Lack of oil will cause damage like that.

Old oil will too if you are lucky an oil change will fix it...

hopefully old oil i thought oil pump nacked maybee might before i makehat try changing t any harsh decisions

I have owned two 2.8TDs. 2 major motor diffs as I saw it. Early 90s models had a huge turbo, and later 90s had a tiny one. Change oil often and use GOOD diesel grade oil. Not 20W/50. Mine went past 250Km no engine issues at all.
Engine will need lifter

Dan, Diesels as you know it are notoriously noisey, especially cold. But if you are going to dismantle it make sure some diagnosis is done first and preferably have some one familiar with that model listen to it(cylinder noise can normally be isolated by

i had a diesal in my transit, 308 now, thank the lord,, but it was blowing smoke like crazy when i could get it to run!! but a good mechanic told me to use fuchs oil,,and it made a huge difference,, no smoke at all after, hope his helps, cheers bcb
