Hi Fellas,
Last weekend I found an LJ GTR motor, JLXXXXXX - minus head and accessories - in a gully in the bush. Not sure if it is any good. At a glance it has corrosion, and has probably been there for months.
Was wondering if it would be worth anything if it is able to be rebuilt.
Is there a demand for these motors? I gather they were not too quick. What would a rebuildable bottom end be worth?
Im still looking for an LC GTR 173S. Maybe further up the gully!

Im thinking not... But I dont follow the trends of died-in-the-wool GMH restorers either. If I recall they were a simple upgrade with slight cam lift and twin down draft carb?
But if the block has been striped and dumped its a good bet its cactus.... |

it was a JL prefix. JL 15xxxx from memory, which i think puts it around 5/72.
mine was a complete motor, including GTR air cleaner (with slot).

Guys
Im overseas so not logged in. Being an xL prefix means its a stock standard 202. BUT, having JL does not just mean it is from a GTR, as the 202 was optional on other LJs later on in the model run.

Thanks Byron, Adam,
So it is a standard 202 that might or might not be from a GTR! There must have been plenty of them made, so I guess I have not discovered a treasure. I think Ill just leave it in the ditch.

It is the right prefix for a GTR though, so it is worth having. It is most valuable to its original car if that car was a GTR. Email me the engine number and ill see if I can find its original car.

Hi again Fellas,
I hope Santa was good to you, and I hope Ricky and his boys can improve a little on their current cricket form.
I grabbed the motor, pulled off the sump and pulled out the pistons. Everything inside was still well oiled, so no corro

I sent you this in an email a while back. Here is the info if you didnt get it:
It originated in an LJ 2369 (S 4door) with the PSN L235180 (VIN suffix).
Built on 16/4/73, dealer code 000.
Was a 3 speed manual with 3.36 diff.
