Thanks for the info but i am a little confused why do some engine build dates like the one above start with a letter then numbers
eg H152 and others have the letter in the middle eg 13J3, yet they are both for HQ and both have QR engine numbers ?

There was a early date code system, month-day-year H152(like chevs) and then it changed to a later system, day-month-year 13J3
From the few records I have at that time it seems to have happened around May-June 1973.
This is with engine blocks at least,

On HK only the US GM parts like diff, engine, block etc use the US system. Other stuff seems to be the Aussie way. Not sure why Holden cast their early blocks using the US style date code.

HK1837. On HQ would that be the same as HK in relation to the coding.
So from what you have posted, I have wrongly assumed that all parts had a early and a late system.
I thought because I have Engine blocks, valley's, exhaust manifolds, heads, gearbox'

It would be logical to assume what you did. But it doesnt appear to work that way with everything. HK-HG certainly have some parts with Aussie style date codes like steering boxes, crossmember, steering column etc. I always assumed it was only the North A
