I have a 253 and am thinking of putting the edelbrock performer manifold with a Holley 600cfm. Im not a mechanic so would something like this be ok for a 253 red motor.

Edelbrock Performer manifold is a good choice, but sell the 600 Holley and use a Quadrajet off a blue 253. If your 253 is an early one (pre HX) use a HT-HJ 308 manifold. It will work as well as the Edelbrock.

Anyone that wrecks VC-VH Commodores or WBs. You can use a 308 one from a VK or VL, it will just need the primary needles and a few other bits changed. Try Greg at ClassicOzWreck 02 49598999. Hed probably have one, but more likely to have a 308 one. Get it

603A is the better carby as you can adjust the primary metering rods without pulling the carby apart and they have an integral choke also. The 601A is for use on the pre HX manifold where the choke operator is on the manifold.
