will a roller cams out perform a solid flat tappet? if so can anyone tell me why? whats the diferance between a holden roller block and the normal 5 litre blocks?

Yes. Roller cam has steeper ramps and allows valves to open/close much quicker. VSIII and VT sequential block has bosses to mount the roller cradle from memory.

You probably can, but youd be best off talking to Comp Cams or Crane. Crane list some roller cams for the pre VN engines so if one will fit them I assume you can fit one to a VN (albeit different valve arrangement).

Like HK1837 said,a roller cam will have the valve off its seat quicker and have the valve open longer at a higher lift than a solid cam.

So if you had a roller and a solid(or hydraulic)with both the same duration and lift,the roller would(should) out
