i can get a old blue 308 with manual 4speed for $500 but it needs a recon. But thats not hard. Is that a reasonable price. I was thinking an rb30 at one point but they would be hard to licence aswell i guess.

a wb ute is not so light with a full chassis so the nissan motor wont perform as it would in a VL. if you wanted to go to the trouble go for a V6 .

The early red 308 HQ-HJ was 240-250 bhp from factory, plenty for a daily driver, as you said you are not looking for huge power. If you have to re-con a 308 maybe stick a mild cam in it, 1 or 2 up from standard , elec dizzy (which the blue should have alre

What about a stroker kit for the 308?

If it needs a reco then buy the time you get new pistons, rings etc and maybe even reco the crank, you might be able to buy one of the cheapo stroker kits out there!

Easy low down grunt and no-one has to know.....

The easiest way would be to put a VK fuel injected 202 in, these were rated at 100kw as against 80kw for your carb 202.
The fact you already have got a 202 in there makes it a easy transfer.
There was a good runner at kingswood country Vic for $450.

Id buy that blue 308 and aussie 4spd. Rebuild both. For the 308 I suggest a good basic build as:

Get it up to 9.5:1 compression if you have access to 95 or 98 Octane and run a mild cam with a bit of overlap to lower the compression slightly.
