Any air motors that I have seen used in industry arent used for torque, mainly high RPM, theyre a bit like an RX7 towing a box trailer, all noise no grunt.

TEX i dont think there is an alternative. I agree with you about handouts and whats special about the automotive industry. BUT...to Australia it is very important to not ruin the employment situation. GM Holden is actually surviving but future develope

Previous government screwed our local car industry by removing the import tariffs, so the least they can do is help it out now.

Yes I reckon bring back a tariff trading system. If you export $100 million worth of stuff every year you should be able to import say 90 million worth of stuff without paying an import tariff.
