whats the best tools to linish a crankshaft and inside a block ? cheers

personly unles ur realy gud as a fiter/turner i wouldnt try it. I paid 40buks for my crank to be linished and tidyd up 4my 202. They made sure everything was al the right size.
With how important ur crank is. 40buks is a bargain.

Linishing a crankshaft is best done on a crankshaft grinding machine, however it can be done on a lathe with a 4 jaw chuck. You need to have each journal turning true overwise you will get high and low spots, so it is imperative that each and every journa

When this is done by a professional engine rebuilder
how do they supply the bearings like are they available
in a whole range of different sizes.

they bring it to a certain undersize normaly ten or twenty though undersize. Bearings that are slightly larger are then used. My crank is ten thou for the con rods and 20thou for the main bearings. Any decent engine builder can help you out

i thought linishing and crank shaft ginding on the mains and big end journals were two different things linishing is smoothing the rough casting on the counter weights and such cheers

Linishing journals removes lines left by grinding, it doesnt effect the finished size of the journal as all it is removing is compounded heat marks and surface structure lines left by the grinding wheel. Cranks and cams are linished usually with 1000-1200
